About the artist:

Guy Crittenden grew up fishing and hunting on the Chesapeake Bay in Gloucester, Virginia. He raised waterfowl at his childhood home on the shores of the Ware River, crabbed in the shallows along the tidal sandbars, and learned about wildlife and the ways of watermen from his grandfather. Guy began to draw and paint as a teenager and it was no surprise that his favorite subject matter was the native wildlife and nature he experienced in his boundless backyard. All of those childhood experiences had a profound impact on Guy and has influenced his art and photography throughout his life.

As a high school athlete, Guy caught the eye of college coaches, and attended The College of William and Mary on a full Football scholarship. He continued his interest in nature throughout his college years, and began to gain notoriety for his paintings. Upon graduation, Guy attended The Art Institute of Atlanta where he earned an Associate Degree in the Arts. He worked for several years for Advertising agencies, before opening Crittenden Studio, a digital photography and video production studio and art gallery in Richmond, Virginia in the early 1990's. Over the years, Guy has produced work for national brands and fortune 500 companies. His photography and digital art have gained national recognition, while his fine art paintings have drawn wide acclaim as well. His photographic images are compelling compositions and sometimes digital manipulations of the natural world including landscapes, animals, people and personal encounters around the globe on his extensive travels. His captivating stock images and personal fine art photography projects are now being carried on Fine Art America.

With an eye for detail and an academic approach to the study of wildlife, his fine art paintings reflects his knowledge of nature. He has consistently placed in the top 10 at the Federal Duck Stamp Competition. He is a five-time winner of the Virginia Migratory Waterfowl Stamp competition, with his first win coming in the 'First of State' Mandatory Stamp in 2005-06. He followed that with wins in 2007 and 2010. The 2014-15 Virginia Duck Stamp is Guy's fourth win and features a pair of Canvasback ducks gracefully gliding on autumn waters. 2014 was a breakthrough year for the artist, as he also won Duck Stamp competitions in Connecticut, Michigan, Oklahoma, Louisiana. In early 2015, Guy added wins in North Carolina and his fifth win in Virginia. In 2016, Guy won waterfowl conservation stamp contests in Colorado and California. Guy currently works primarily on competitions, Plein Air Events and original landscape and other commissions for clients and collectors. Guy donates a substantial number of paintings and prints to charities and conservation organizations every year. 'My art is not only a way to share my experiences, but also a way to contribute to the conservation of natural resources for future generations. It is gratifying on several levels.'
