The figure is primarily white with soft flesh tones on face and hands and black trim on the cuffs of his costume. The coat is decorated with a fine yellow band at the front edge and purple rosettes at the sides. His shoes are bright yellow. The bouquet is backed by a wide scalloped collar decorated in gold. Marked in blue on the bottom with Goebels's Archive Collection logo dated 1986, "from a worldwide limited edition of 5000" and 'Pierrot'. There is also a black hand-drawn artisan's mark and the number 0101.
Pierrot is a possible French addition to the 16th century travelling Italian theatrical troupe the Commedia dell'Arte. He is a stock character, a servant who bashfully pines for his employer's daughter, Columbina. He is often represented as a sad, moonstruck clown who hides his true feelings.
