Details: Small oval hinged trinket box with slightly domed lid. The white porcelain box is decorated with the classic Homestead red and purple floral border. The lid features a wreath of the same Homestead floral design with a green silhouette of the Homestead tower in center bottom of wreath. The gilt bronze hinged frame fastens with a daily-shaped clasp. Inside the box is a purple flower and leaves from the wreath as well as "The HOMESTEAD" in green. Marked on bottom in green "LIMOGES FRANCE".
Established as a spa in 1832, on the spot of an earlier private lodge dating to 1766, The Homestead Resort has hosted vacationers, including diplomats and 23 US Presidents, ever since. The area features the largest hot springs in Virginia, and the resort also offers championship golf courses and alpine ski facilities, as well as well-appointed accommodations. It is a designated National Historic Landmark.
