Details: The Naja, or "Crescent" in Navajo, has several meanings including resilience, beauty from despair, fertility/new life, and protection. The Naja can be linked to early civilizations and goddess-based faiths, such as those in Phoenicia, Greece, Crete, and Rome. The Spaniards, who acquired the sign from the Moors and introduced it to the Americas in the late 16th century, may have been the source of the Navajo's adoption.
