Details: Small hand painted portrait plate, supposedly of Simonetta Vespucci, depicted as Cleopatra, with the asp around her neck. Simonetta Vespucci was a noblewoman of Genoa who married a cousin of Amerigo Vespucci. Simonetta was considered the most beautiful woman in Florence in the 15th Century, and is said to have inspired Botticelli, Piero di Cosimo, and other Florentine artists of the time. This plate is marked on the reverse "Simonetta Vespucci", "A. Pollaiplo", and "Italy".
