Condition: Excellent pre-owned condition. A few tiny nicks in the lacquer consistent with age and use. Hairline crack in the lacquer on the bottom. Please see photos. 

Details: Small lacquered box decorated with a cinnabar red and black scroll design accented in gold. The lid showcases a salvaged antique porcelain shard depicting a yellow bird on a branch. The underside of the lid has a wax seal of authority. These boxes were often made after the Chinese cultural revolution in the 1960s-1970's.

During this period, owning antique porcelain was illegal, leading many collectors to break and discard their pieces. Later, these fragments were collected and incorporated into items, such as shard boxes. Due to the use of shards, each box in unique with variations in the porcelain patterns. The age of the porcelain shards can date back to the 18th century or earlier, while the lacquer box is typically a later addition, often the late 20th century.
