Item: Framed Needlework
Origin: Cabell County, West Virginia
Age: 1915
Construction: Cloth needlepoint / wood & glass frame
Dimensions: 18 1/4” W x 14 3/8” T (with frame)
Condition: Very good. Needlepoint has been well preserved behind glass and frame, which are not original and have minor signs of cosmetic wear. Backing on upper corners have been reinforced with tape. Please see photos.
Details: This needlepoint is a fantastic piece of West Virginia history! It reads:
“Rules of Conduct for Teachers
You are not to keep company with men.
You must wear two petticoats.
You may not dye your hair.
Your dress must be 2” above ankle.
You may not loiter downtown.
Keep the fire going.
Cabell County, West Virginia 1915”
