Crotal bells are bells or rattles that produce sound from a pellet inside an enclosed object, rather than a clapper. Better known as horse bells, jingle bells, sleigh bells or rumblers, they have been in use for centuries. Their most well-known use is for horse-drawn vehicles to warn others of their presence.
