Faux Wood Decorated Desk Box & Inkwell

Make: Unknown (marked on bottom with stickers from Dobyns-Taylor Gifts, Kingsport, Tennessee)

Construction:  Gesso-Coated Wood, Paper

Dimensions:

• Desk Box  (4 3/4" Tall x 6 7/8" Long x 4" Deep)
• Inkwell - 2 1/2" Tall x 3" Square

Condition: Very good vintage condition. Some areas of exposed wood/gesso, especially on corners.  A few instances of loss of relief elements. Wire hinges have pulled loose from lid of desk box. Please see photos. 

Details: Box with curved, slanted lid and wide base made of molding on corner feet. Entire box is covered with gesso, with scrolling relief elements of molded gesso on lid, front and two sides. A classical scene of dancing ladies is decoupaged on center of lid with gesso frame. Entire box painted in a swirling wood-grain finish. Inkwell is also made of gesso-coated wood with mitered base and hinged lid.  A classical scene of cherub is decoupaged on the lid with a round decorative frame. Inside of inkwell has a round opening for an ink vessel (missing). The same faux wood grain treatment is used on the inkwell. Both pieces have a green paper label on the bottom with faded gold lettering "DOBYNS-TAYLOR Gifts, Kingsport, Tennessee".
