Condition: Very good antique condition. One plate cracked and repaired. Ten of the plates have varying degrees of crazing and light discoloration typical of age and use. Platter has a tiny chip on one edge. Light utensil marks. Please see photos.
Details: A matched set comprised of a large fish platter and 12 plates. The entire set is decorated in blue on a cream background. The platter displays a large central fish surrounded by aquatic plants, seashells and smaller fish. The plates are decorated with 11 different sea life designs, including fish, a lobster and kingfishers, as well as various shells and plants. There is one duplicate plate. The blanks used for the plates and platter are scalloped, with an embossed fish scale pattern on the inner rim. Each piece boasts an outer blue border in a trefoil in grid pattern framing the central design. Marked on back with impressed marks for W.T. Copeland and the recipe mark for cream colored desert-ware, the date of manufacture (June 1884 for the platter, July 1884 for the plates), and the registration mark for the pattern.
