In 1932, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of George Washington's birth, the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad inaugurated its flagship train, the "George Washington".  Running from Cincinnati, OH to Washington, DC with additional sections originating in Louisville, KY and ending in Pheobus, VA. It was one of only two fully air-conditioned trains operating in the US at the time, offering first class accommodations.  It is remembered for its Dining Car, and for its "beautiful china". These gold-rimmed dinner plates were a part of this china service, produced by Syracuse China (Onondaga Pottery Co.) and Buffalo China. This china is on display at the C&O Museum in Clifton Forge, VA.
