Condition: Excellent pre-owned vintage condition. No chips, cracks or crazing. Some minor spots of discoloration in the gold. Please see photos.
Details: White porcelain plates with 2" wide etched gold border. Etching is in a floral design, with narrow foliate garlands at inner and outer rims and stylized aster or carnations and ferns. Fine Arabesque scrolls between floral design components. Marked on the back of each with Wheeling Decorating Co.'s gold diamond-shaped logo, reading "WHEELING DECORATING CO W VA GLASS CHINA".
The Wheeling Decorating Company operated out of Wheeling, West Virginia, from 1900-1962. They purchased blanks from about 300 companies worldwide, including Fostoria, Fenton, Cambridge, Homer Laughlin and Lenox. They decorated glass and china, and were known for the use of heavy gold decoration and etched or embossed designs. Their patterns often lacy designs, often incorporating bird and floral components.
