The blooms on this sculpture are similar to that of his "African Violet" works. Please note that this sculpture does not have any makers marks or signatures. However, based on our research and experience we feel confident that it is an authentic piece by Demetrios Xethalis.
Demetrios Xethalis began sculpting in his father's workshop in Corinth, Greece after a family member taught him how to design and create jewelry. He loved the flowers of his native land and started interpreting them in metal as a teenager. He came to America in his early 20's where he attended New York University's school of engineering. The wildflowers he found here fascinated him as much as those that had inspired him from Greece. From then, until his passing in 2010, Demetrios created many one-of-a-kind sculptures. Meticulously attaching one leaf and stem at a time, he used a unique process of oxidizing and assembling his brass works, producing a beautiful and realistic result.
