Siggy Puchta aka Siegfried Puchta was a prolific artist whose career spanned over 50 years. Born in Germany in 1933, he spent his early life apprenticing as a wood carver and honing his skills. At age 20 he exercised his loved of freedom and adventure and fled what had then become Russian dominated East Germany. Arriving in Canada in 1953, he followed his passion to succeed as a sculptor. Siggy began teaching wood carving at a respected college in 1957. By 1965 he was an accepted member of the Sculptors Society of Canada and exhibited his work with them and other fine galleries across Canada. From there his career soared, invited by the Ontario government to participate in an international competition which brought his work to over 35 countries. He became recognized internationally and exhibited in Portugal, Mexico City, Canada, and the USA. Today his commissioned sculptures grace many public buildings in Canada and the USA.
