A beautiful, authentic 19th-century American salt-glazed ovoid stoneware jug. This 1-gallon primitive piece features a classic, highly bulbous ovoid body that tapers elegantly into a narrow neck and anchored base, typical of early Northeastern pottery production from the 1820s–1830s.
Design & Decoration:
- Glaze: Traditional salt-glaze finish with a wonderful, subtle "orange-peel" texture and glossy sheen.
- Decoration: Adorned with a hand-painted, freehand abstract cobalt blue slip motif on the front belly.
- Form: Features a thick, sturdy collar rim and an applied strap handle on the back.
Measurements:
- Height: 9.5 inches
- Maximum Belly Diameter: 7 3/4 inches
- Base Diameter: 6 5/8 inches
Condition:
Excellent antique condition for its age with great rustic appeal. Shows typical manufacturing irregularities inherent to early 19th-century kiln firings (such as minor glaze pops and kiln spots). No major structural compromises. Please review all high-resolution photos carefully as they serve as the primary description of condition.
