Item Dimensions & Specifications:
- Inkwell Set Base: 5.5” Long x 4.5” Wide x 3.25” High
- Fairchild Dip Pen: 6.75” Long
Material Breakdown & Features:
- The Jade Base: Features an incredibly intricate, deeply reticulated openwork circular plaque of translucent white/celadon jade.
- The Metalwork: Mounted securely in an ornate gilded bronze/brass frame featuring a crisp, authentic "CHINA" block stamp on the interior rim—correctly dating the piece to the Republic Period (c. 1910–1940). It rests on four robust, original brass ball feet.
- The Inkwell: The hinged lid opens smoothly to reveal the highly desirable, original vibrant blue counter-enamel coating underneath, used historically to protect the metal from acidic inks.
- The Pen: A magnificent, top-tier antique dip pen with a stunning, hand-carved twisted mother-of-pearl (nacre) spiral handle boasting excellent natural luster. The gilded collar is clearly stamped with the prestigious maker's mark: "FAIRCHILD 6" (Leroy W. Fairchild & Co., New York).
- The Nib: Fitted with an antique alloy dip pen nib stamped "199 CORP SILVER"(prized historically for its resistance to ink corrosion).
Condition Report:
Very good antique condition overall. The jade plaque is excellent aside from one small repair near the edge. The mother-of-pearl handle is completely solid with no cracks or fractures. The gilded bronze fittings retain a beautiful, uncleaned, age-appropriate patina. There is a minor dent on the engraved metal collar of the Fairchild pen (clearly visible in the macro close-up photos). It is purely cosmetic, does not affect the structural integrity, and the pen sits perfectly in its original brackets.
