A beautiful, large-scale vintage German stoneware serving pitcher manufactured by the renowned Albert Jacob Thewalt factory in the Westerwald region. This is a substantial master-sized vessel standing at an impressive 14 7/8 inches tall to the top of the pewter lid finial.
This piece features Mold #143, intricately detailed with deep cobalt blue and gray salt-glazed relief work. The upper banner displays the traditional German toast: "Zum Wohlsein!" (To your health / Cheers!). The body features a beautifully embossed scene of traditional dancing couples, flanked by a detailed relief panel of a winged cherub playing a horn.
Authentic Bottom Markings & Details:
- Maker's Mark: Official Thewalt interlocking "T" inside a shield logo.
- Production Era: Stamped "WESTERN GERMANY", dating its production between 1949 and 1990.
- Historical Context: Stamped "ORIGINAL MOLD YEAR 1894", denoting the historic year this specific design was first sculpted by Thewalt.
- Capacity & Mold Stamped: "2 ½ Ltr" on the base, and mold number "143" stamped into the neck near the top handle attachment.
