Item: Throw Pillow
Make: Unknown
Age: Late 20th Century
Construction: Wool, canvas, velvet
Dimensions: 14" sq
Condition: Very good vintage condition. The needlepoint is structurally sound with vibrant colors. There is some light canvas show-through at the corners/edges and one faint pinhead sized age spot on the cream background. These are typical for handmade wool pieces of this era and do not detract from the overall display. Please see photos.
Details: A square needlepoint pillow depicting the iconic "Woodland Hare" design, a celebrated pattern deeply rooted in the 19th century Arts & Crafts movement. Inspired by the classic tapestries of William Morris, the central hare is surrounded by foliage and flowers in shades of blue and green with touches of yellow and rose. A geometric foliate border edges each side. The pillow is backed with deep tea velvet and trimmed with a decorative passementerie cord in the same blues and greens.
