Details: Coin silver berry server with beaded edge handle and strawberry motif scoop. Scoop is embellished with etched strawberries and leaves surrounded by radiating hand chased dotted lines and a fine scalloped border. Handle is monogrammed "C.A.H.". Reverse of handle is marked with eagle, "U", and shield symbols alongside ''Bailey & Co." and two small stars at the base of the scoop.
George B. Sharp is first listed in 1850 directories as a silver and jewelry maker. In 1852-1853 he became exclusively employed for the Philidelphia retailers, Bailey & Co. In 1862 Sharp opened his own shop and remained the principal supplier for Bailey & Co until about 1870. He is noted for his high-quality designs, many of which were granted patents.
