RARE 1886 CIVIL WAR "OLD SOLDIERS" REUNION RIBBON – INDIANA COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA
DIRECT PROVENANCE TO PRIVATE NOAH LOHR, 55TH PENNSYLVANIA INFANTRY (WOUNDED AT PETERSBURG)
An exceptionally rare, 100% authentic piece of Pennsylvania Civil War history. This silk commemorative ribbon was printed for the "First Re-Union of the Old Soldiers of Indiana County" held on July 3rd, 1886.
HISTORICAL PROVENANCE & BACKGROUND:
This exact ribbon was originally acquired at the 1886 event by Private Noah Lohr of Indiana County, PA.
- Regiment: 55th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (Company F)
- Combat Record: The 55th PA saw grueling combat across the Eastern Theater, playing a heavy role in the Richmond-Petersburg Campaign.
- The Sacrifice: Private Lohr tragically lost his leg due to wounds sustained during the horrific siege lines at the Battle of Petersburg.
To find an early regional veteran reunion ribbon is uncommon; to find one with a ironclad, direct pedigree to a wounded combat survivor from a celebrated Pennsylvania regiment makes this a true museum-grade archive.
DESIGN & CONDITION DETAILS:
- Features a striking, crisp graphics imprint of a spread-winged American Eagle carrying an olive branch and arrows.
- Finely printed typography: "First Re-Union of the Old Soldiers of Indiana County, July 3rd, 1886."
- Stamped with the local print maker mark at the bottom: "Sansom, Print."
- Measures exactly 2 3/8” wide by 8.5” long.
- Condition: Beautifully preserved for being 140 years old. Displays a rich, natural antique cream/tan patina. Minor fraying typical of fragile period silk edges, with clean, legible text and graphics. Please see the high-resolution photos for exact condition.
This is an incredible investment piece for collectors of G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic) ephemera, Pennsylvania military history, or Petersburg campaign artifacts.
