An original 19th century lithograph overpainted in select areas adding wonderful detail and depth. It is mounted on a beveled wood panel. This piece measures an intimate 10 3/8 x 7 5/8 inches.
Subject:
The subject matter depicts a classic 19th century Central European rustic interior. The traditional attire including the elder's heavy cape and folk footwear strongly align with Bohemian or wider Austro-Hungarian genre art of the period.
The Signature:
The lower corner features a signature starting with "J. Jar..." and terminating in a sweeping, long tailed letter (possibly "y"). The text is partially faded and indistinct due to age. It is undetermined whether the signature is printed within the matrix or hand applied.
The Reverse & Production Marks:
The back of the panel features a dark, heavily faded, and illegible branded mark that was burned into the wood long ago. While the exact logo or text is no longer legible due to age and wear, it shows the clear characteristics of an antique panel-maker’s mark or regional estate/guild stamp. The panel itself features beautifully hand-cut, beveled edges on the reverse side, showing standard historical oxidation and tool marks consistent with authentic
19th-century panel preparation.
Condition:
Good antique condition consistent with a 100+ year old lithograph. The printed paper and painted highlights show natural aging and fine patina. The wood panel remains stable and structurally sound, showing expected oxidation on the back. Please see high-resolution photos for close-up details of the surface and branded emblem.
