- Heavy-Duty Fire Pit: Remove the tile top and you instantly have a premium wood-burning fire pit. Unlike modern, thin sheet-metal retail fire pits that rust out in two seasons, this thick antique cast iron is virtually indestructible. This kettle is a genuine piece of rural American utility iron, cast roughly between 1870 and 1910. It features the classic raised horizontal mold lines from a two-piece sand casting mold.
- The "40 GNS" Shorthand: The side features a highly stylized, blocky foundry stamp reading "40 GNS" (the archaic abbreviation for 40 Gallons). Over a century of sand texture and light surface pitting makes the stamping look uniquely like the word "LONGS"—a fantastic conversation starter!
- Structural Integrity: The cauldron basin is solid with absolutely no rust-through holes or hairline cracks. It holds its shape perfectly.
- The Handle: Please note that one of the side loop handles/ears is broken off(see photos). When used as a table or fire pit, this is completely unnoticeable and does not impact its stability or function whatsoever. It is priced accordingly due to this defect.
