A stunning antique German Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) copper flagon/claret jug designed and manufactured by the highly celebrated workshop of Carl Deffner in Esslingen, Germany.
This elegant piece stands exactly 13 7/8 inches tall (the historic 35 cm catalog variant) and features Deffner's iconic elongated silhouette, stylized geometric arrow motifs, and an integrated bird-fin thumb lever mechanism for single-handed pouring.
Item Highlights:
- 100% Authentic: Features the stamped Carl Deffner maker's mark on the underside of the base (shield with crossed halberds/axes, flanked by "C" and "D" with an "E" at the bottom), alongside the factory design pattern number "8".
- Original Finish: The exterior boasts its original, deep factory-applied dark chemical bronze patina. It has never been amateurishly polished or chemically stripped, preserving its historic value.
- Traditional Construction: Crafted from high-quality sheet copper with a mixed metal handle. The interior retains its original historical wiped-tin lining, used traditionally to protect the copper from acidic wines.
Condition Report:
This piece is over 110 years old and shows honest signs of age. There is a 2" dent on the bottom rim causing a very slight wobble when sitting on flat surfaces. The interior tin lining shows normal oxidation and light flaking near the upper rim. Please review all high-resolution photos carefully to assess the exact cosmetic condition.
