A magnificent, exceptionally rare Antique Hand-Blown Glass Cloche / Pastry Dome, dating from the late Victorian to early Edwardian era (circa 1880–1910).
Unlike common, squat vintage cheese domes, this premium statement piece features a commanding 11.5-inch vertical height and a 9.5-inch diameter, making it a highly sought-after size for interior designers, curators, and collectors alike.
Authentic Antique Characteristics:
  • Ground-Off Pontil Mark: The top of the solid glass knob features the distinctive, slightly concave, and polished indentation where the glassmaker manually detached the piece from the blowpipe rod.
  • Artisan Imperfections: The body features gorgeous, authentic "birthmarks" of 19th-century glassmaking, including beautifully trapped air seeds (gas bubbles) and faint swirling striations (cooling lines) that catch the light beautifully.
  • Exceptional Weight: Crafted with an impressive 1/4-inch glass thickness, this dome carries magnificent structural weight and presence, far superior to flimsy, modern machine-made reproductions.
  • Historic Hue: Features the iconic, delicate aqua-green undertone characteristic of natural iron impurities found in historic European river sand furnaces.
Condition Report:
This cloche is in beautiful, well-preserved antique condition. There are no structural cracks or heavy chips along the bottom edge. Gentle, age-appropriate wear may be present on the base rim from decades of display. Has a few very minor imperfections on the top of the knob’s edge. Please review all high-resolution photos to appreciate the stunning hand-crafted texture of this century-old piece.
