Condition: Excellent. No rips, tears, or damage to the canvas. Has signs of age and a small splatter of paint to the bottom left corner. Frame appears to be antique but not original. Please see photos.
Details: This antique copy of the original portrait by Jean Ranc is done with acute precision and professional technique. The most revealing detail when determining the importance of this piece are the two separate wax seals applied to the stretchers on the backside of the canvas. Both reveal a crown positioned at the top of the crest, meaning this piece was likely the property of European nobility. The words "...DE CHAPELLE ST. ---ERT 1775" are visible on the larger which also suggests this piece could have been displayed in a noble chapel or church.
This portrait captures the future queen of Spain in an outdoor setting, adorned in a stunning yellow silk gown paired with vibrant red robes and a blouse featuring delicate lace cuffs. Her bosom and sleeves are adorned with a lavish display of diamonds and rubies, and her hair is beautifully accented with a diamond brooch and matching earrings. In her right hand, she holds a bouquet of flowers including a red carnation, a symbolic and traditional motif often seen in portraits of queens anticipating marriage.
