Details:  A beautiful, and useful, addition to any festive table!  The white porcelain dish has straight, tapered sides and raised basketweave band below the rim.  The base is painted on both sides with birds perched in twigs, the telltale necklace draped among the leaves.  Butterflies and other insects are scattered over the body of the dish. The handles, painted pale green, are modelled on cut stems with tendrils with hand formed pink and yellow roses where the handles join the dish. The slightly domed lid is decorated with butterflies and a version of the birds in the twigs, the finial is a brown and yellow bird.  A narrow gold band adorns the top and bottom edges of the dish and the edge of the lid.  Marked on bottom with Herend's blue mark, and hand-numbered 42/RO 67.

There is a legend that a Rothschild Baroness lost her necklace, and believed it was stolen.  Later, walking in her garden, she saw songbirds in a tree, and, hanging near them, her necklace.  The owner of Herend heard this legend and, inspired by it, designed this pattern in its memory.  The Rothschild family were delighted with the pattern, and ordered the collection in 1850.  It was named "Rothschild Bird" (RO) in their honor.
