L S & S Austria Hand-Painted Bird Wildlife Plate

Condition: Excellent pre-owned vintage condition.  No chips, cracks, or crazing. Some gold loss due to age & use. Please see photos. 

Details: Large coupe-shaped scalloped plate with a hand painted scene depicting a shorebird bending towards the water against a muted peach and purple-gray landscape. The variety of bird "Snipe" is painted in the foreground.  Artist's signature, "W. Groschl", is painted in the lower front right. The Arabesque scrolled edge of the plate is painted with gold. Marked on back in blue is "L.S. & S  Austria" above and below a stylized beehive. Also marked in black by hand "1289". The foot ring is pierced so that plate may be wired for hanging. L. S. & s stands for Lazarus Strauss & sons, importers of fine porcelain and manufacturers of lamps, on Warren in Carlsbad, Austria.
