Bawo & Dotter was established in New York in the 1860's, importing porcelain primarily from Limoges, France. In the 1870's the company opened a decorating factory in Limoges called The Elite Works, which began producing its own porcelain in 1896. The factory was in production until the beginning of the first World War in 1914, and resumed after the war's end.
