About the artist: Jean Lay Sauls was born in Davenport, Iowa, in 1921. She studied art at Grinnell College and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Sauls moved to Georgia after the war where she became known throughout the southeast for her impressionist oil paintings and watercolors of figures, still lifes and beach scenes.
