Details:  Large porcelain lamp with heavily decorated porcelain shade. The base features two couples in 19th century dress, dancing around what appears to be the base of a tree. The base is near round, supported by Rococo curves and ruffles accented in gold.  On two sides base arrangements of applied, hand-formed flowers accent the edges. The round shade has deeply scalloped edges. In each downward curve is a pierced area.  At the higher points (4) there are oval inset lithophane panels depicting classical scenes.  Above each pierced panel are groups of hand-formed porcelain flowers.  A garland of hand-formed flowers decorates the top edge of the shades.  The shades is held in place by a threaded, conical solid-clay finial, heavily encrusted with hand formed flowers and leaves.  Is marked on bottom in blue with the Von Schiederholz mark used between 1973-1990. Lamp has two bulb sockets.

Von Schierholz manufacture was founded in 1816 and became famous for their lithophanes (light permeable sculptured panels).  The company remained in family hands until after World War II when Thuringia became a part of East Germany and the company was nationalized.  With the reunification of Germany in 1990, the name Vons Scheirholz Porzellan Manufaktur Plaue G.m.b.H. was restored.
