Details: The rarest and most precious rich apple-green gemstone in the chalcedony family, chrysoprase is also known as the "stone of Venus." Ancient jewelers frequently confused it for an emerald. In contrast to emeralds, which are colored by chromium, chrysoprase gets its vivid spring green hue from trace levels of nickel. Because of its brilliant hue, chrysoprase was utilized by the Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians to create seals, signets, jewelry, and other decorative items. The contemporary phrase is derived from the literal Greek translation of chrusos, which means "golden," and prason, which means "leek," signifying the stone's golden-leek green hue.
